Ephrata water tower filling complete

EPHRATA — The City of Ephrata completed the filling process for its new water tower, which is now fully operational. City Engineer Shawn O’Brien confirmed the final programming delays with the booster pump system have been resolved, paving the way for greater water pressure in the Ephrata Heights area. 

Residents in that area can expect to experience a gradual increase in water pressure by approximately 10-12 pounds over the day Tuesday, as the tower fills.  

“The water tower itself was ready, but we needed to finalize the programming for the booster pump station, which has now been accomplished,” O’Brien said. 

The new water tower will improve water service quality, according to city officials. Previously, the maximum output from the city's well was 1,800 gallons per minute. O’Brien said once the new well is fully operational, the capacity will increase to 2,400 GPM. He said this will meet both current and future demand.  

“This project is vital not just to increase water pressure for household consumption, but it also enhances the water available for fire protection in our community,” he said. 

While improvements in water pressure are imminent, residents are advised that they may experience temporary water discoloration as the system adjusts.  

“This is a normal part of the transition, and rest assured that the water remains safe to use,” O’Brien said. 

The city is preparing for the final touches of the project, which includes installing two notable “Ephrata E’s” on the water tower scheduled for the coming spring.  

“We hope that all residents will immediately notice the difference in their water service,” O’Brien said.
