Ephrata PD seeks public assistance in vandalism case

EPHRATA — Multiple business windows and vehicles in downtown Ephrata have fallen victim to vandalism. Ephrata Police Chief Erik Koch reported that the incidents appear to have occurred over the nights of Jan. 21 and 22, with an estimated six or seven businesses impacted. 

“During these two nights, we observed that windows were shot out," Koch said, explaining that the method used appears to involve a BB gun or a pellet gun. “Some of the windows developed holes, while others were completely shattered,” he said.  

Among the victims was a parked vehicle, which sustained severe damage to its rear window. The Ephrata Police Department is currently pursuing leads and evidence related to these acts of vandalism.  

“We are trying to follow up on the incidents,” Koch said, acknowledging the challenges of the investigation.  

Law enforcement officials are reviewing surveillance videos and are encouraging community members to come forward with any information they may have.  

“If anyone has knowledge about these incidents or recognizes who might be responsible, that would be invaluable for our investigation,” he said. 

Although no further incidents have been reported since the original events, Koch said late reports sometimes arise, as some victims may not notice the damage immediately. He reassured the public that the Ephrata Police Department is dedicated to maintaining safety and security in the community. 

As the investigation continues, citizens are reminded to report any suspicious activity and are urged to share any relevant video footage or photographs. The cooperation of the community is crucial in helping Ephrata law enforcement resolve these acts of vandalism, Koch said. 

“Hopefully, we will get some charges filed soon,” he said.
