Fiber circuits damaged by Spokane Complex Fire impacts local channels

The Spokane Complex Fire has caused TV channels to go black in Grant County. 

“We are currently experiencing an outage affecting Spokane-area local channels for our customers in Grant County. The outage began early Sunday afternoon,” said Senior Manager of Operations for Local Tel Communications in an email to the Columbia Basin Herald. 

The affected channels include KXLY ABC, KHQ NBC, KSPS PBS, KREM CBS, KSKN CW, KAYU FOX, and several associated digital channels. 

“These channel feeds travel through several third-party network providers before reaching our system,” she said. “Zayo is currently working to restore the fiber path that carries the feeds from KSPS. We were advised this afternoon that repairs are expected to be completed between 6 and 9 p.m. tonight, August 4.” 

She said that although the outage occurred during the Spokane Complex Fire, Zayo has reportedly been repairing multiple fiber circuits.  

“We have not received official confirmation of the cause or the extent of any damage,” Walker said. “We are continuing to monitor the situation and will provide additional updates if the restoration timeline changes.”
