BARE OUR SHELVES: See what’s happening at the Moses Lake Library

Have you recently visited the Moses Lake Public Library? If not, from June to September 2024, we completed a shelving replacement project thanks to a generous local anonymous donor who contributed $100,000 through our Moses Lake Public Library Foundation. This allowed for increased mobility and visibility, along with a continued focus on providing more seating options. 

This shelving project also let us incorporate more space-efficient shelving and condense the number of materials across each collection, also allowing for more programming space and a dedicated Teen Area. While some areas may look like there are fewer books on the shelves, there are as many or more books than before the project began (we promise!). 

Managing a physical public space can be a challenge; however, we rise to the occasion and make small improvements monthly, guided by feedback from our staff, patrons, and visitors. We want your library experience to be a positive one, and we believe that it is never too late to become a library user.

As trusted information professionals, honesty and transparency are important to us. If you have an information need, we are here to help! After a busy summer of library programming and outreach as part of our annual Summer Library Program, we are preparing to wrap up Summer Reading on Friday, Aug. 14. Our annual SLP offers children, teens and adults opportunities to explore the library's fun resources, materials and programs. 

Anyone who registers for Summer Reading receives print materials, including a Kids Activity Pack, Teens Activity Pack or Adult Bingo. By completing the activities, participants can earn small prizes and/or raffle tickets for larger prizes thanks to the generosity of our Friends of the Moses Lake Library. You have two weeks remaining to track your reading and hurry into the library to earn those raffle tickets!

The Moses Lake Public Library regularly offers programming for kids, teens, and adults each week with the help of our Teen Librarian, Maira, and our Children’s Librarian, Zach. Learn about a few of our featured programs coming up in August.

Do you have a tween or teen who enjoys junk journaling? Join Maira for a creative experience known as Messy Pages Club on Monday, Aug. 3, from 4 to 5 p.m. 

Kids of all ages, big or small, are welcome to join Washington State Park Rangers for a story and a short program on local geography, geology, wildlife, and weather! This program will take place on Thursday, Aug. 13, from 1 to 2 p.m.

Kids, teens, and adults are invited to join us on Thursday, Aug. 27 for our Use it Up! Creative Reuse Crafternoon program, where we will reduce waste while showing off our creativity and creating something new from recycled materials.

Bare Our Shelves will appear bi-weekly and features honest musings from your local library staff. Austin Foglesong is the Supervising Librarian II of the Moses Lake Public Library, a branch of NCW Libraries. He has a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Washington. Connie Baulne is the Operations Supervisor of the Moses Lake Public Library. She specializes in controlled chaos and creating a good schedule.
