Citywide cleanup in Moses Lake Saturday

| April 23, 2026 5:47 PM

MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake residents will have a chance to dispose of household junk Saturday in trash bins at four locations around town. The citywide cleanup day also includes a barbecue for city residents.

The Downtown Moses Lake Association is sponsoring a downtown cleanup Saturday morning in a separate event.

Trash bins will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Knolls Vista Park, 444 Knolls Vista Dr.; the Columbia Middle School parking lot, 1111 E. Nelson Rd.; Lakeside Disposal, 2000 W. Broadway Ave., and the 4200 block of Longview St, at the site of a planned city park.

That cracked bowl that can’t be fixed? The clock that broke in 2014? That really ugly plastic holiday wreath that no one knows where it even came from? Communications Specialist Lynne Lynch said that’s the kind of junk that will be accepted.

People who want to get rid of that stuff will be required to verify their residence with photo identification and must be able to unload the debris themselves.

Tires and rims will not be accepted, nor will paints, solvents or other household hazardous waste. Rocks, bricks and concrete will not be accepted. Large appliances such as refrigerators, washers, dryers and dishwashers will be rejected. Commercial waste won’t be accepted.

All Moses Lake residents are invited to a community barbecue from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Knolls Vista Park. The menu includes hamburgers, hot dogs and cookies.

The DMLA is conducting its own cleanup downtown from 9 a.m. to noon. Executive Director Mallory Miller said in an earlier interview that volunteers will be spreading out for 2026.

“We’ll be cleaning up downtown Moses Lake, probably spanning from Balsam Street up to Cedar, and then we’re expanding over to Neppel Landing Park this year,” Miller said.

The Neppel Landing section is optional, she said, given concerns about possible paraphernalia in the park.

Miller said that recently it’s been relatively easy to clean downtown.

“The last couple of years we’ve noticed that it’s not really that dirty by the time springtime rolls around,” she said.

While DMLA organizers have set aside four hours, typically volunteers have been finished within two hours, she said.
