Gust G. ‘Gus’ Mandelas

| April 20, 2026 11:17 AM

Gust “Gus” George Mandelas, 81, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026, at Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake, Washington, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 28, 1944, in Ellensburg, Washington, the youngest of five children born to Gust and Mary Mandelas.

Gus married the love of his life, Victoria Ducharme Walker, on Aug. 10, 1963. Together, they built a life centered on family, raising their son Tim and daughter Teresa.

A dedicated plumber by trade, Gus was known for his humor and often referred to himself as a “UT (Urban Turd) Chaser,” a title he wore with pride. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing the accordion. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, spending time with family and friends, good country music, a good drink and a great cigar.

After the passing of his beloved wife Victoria in 2017, Gus found unexpected companionship in her puppy, Teddy. What began as uncertainty quickly turned into a deep bond, and Teddy became his constant companion and best friend, holding a special place in his heart.

Gus is survived by his son Tim Mandelas; his daughter Teresa (Chet) Morgan; his grandchildren Sarianne, Brianne, Chancellor, Chaysten and Chaydan; and his loyal dog, Teddy. He was preceded in death by his wife Victoria; his parents; his brothers George, Angelo and Nick; and his sister Lemonia.

The Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at Johnston & Williams Funeral Home in Ellensburg. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Ellensburg, Washington with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. A reception for family and friends will be held in the St. Andrew’s Parish Hall following the cemetery service.

Gus will be remembered for his humor, his strong work ethic and the deep love he had for his family, friends and faithful companion.

Memorial contributions in Gus’s memory are suggested to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Johnston & Williams of Ellensburg. Online condolences may be left for the family at https://johnston-williams.com.
