Cougars earn home victory over Lake Roosevelt
WARDEN — The Warden Cougars (3-10) earned a convincing 9-2 home victory over Lake Roosevelt on Thursday evening. The Cougars remained dominant throughout the game and will have some time between games to prepare for the remainder of the season.
Warden came out strong in the first inning, holding Lake Roosevelt scoreless in the top of the inning and earning three runs when scoring off an error and Kameron Jensen grounding out to score two runs, according to stats from GameChanger. The Cougars added to their lead in the bottom of the second inning with Jensen singling to score two runs, Carson Whitaker grounding out to score a run and another error scoring a run.
The Cougars held Lake Roosevelt scoreless until the fourth inning, where the visiting team scored two runs. Neither team scored in the fifthand Warden closed out the game to score two runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn the 9-2 victory.
Warden was consistent in getting the bases loaded early on in the game, which contributed to the team’s ability to gain their significant lead over the opposition.
Jensen led the Cougars offensively with three RBI’s and going 1-for-3 on hitting for the afternoon. Jorgenson was also key for the team’s success, going 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the team in hitting. As a whole, the team stole four bases throughout the game.
Ryan Jorgensen was first to pitch for Warden where he surrendered five hits and two runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking five. Jensen followed up to pitch three and one third innings with zero hits, zero runs, two walks and seven strikeouts.
The Cougars next game will be on the road April 21 at 4 p.m. where they face Kittitas.
