WorkSource Job Fair coming Friday
MOSES LAKE — Job seekers will have a chance to connect with employers at the WorkSource Job Fair on Friday.
“We have … 27-plus businesses, which includes school districts, industrial manufacturers, tax prep,” said Employment Security Department Business Services/Employment Development Specialist Crysie Kluth. “We have the Colville Confederated Tribes, we have temporary employment agencies, we have five health care businesses.”
The lineup is a little different from previous events, Kluth said, because some of the usual employers are holding off due to economic uncertainty. In their place are some businesses that haven’t been at the hiring fair before, she said, giving job seekers some new options. Solarity Credit Union, Joysen Safety Systems and Grant Transit Authority are among the new faces, she said. Local school districts including Moses Lake and Royal will be there as well.
“A lot of new employers mixed with some of our regulars,” Kluth said.
The event begins at 10 a.m., but doors will be open at WorkSource at 8 a.m. to allow job seekers to set up their WorkSource accounts if they haven’t already, and to make updates to their resumes and cover letters before presenting themselves to potential employers. Job seekers are also encouraged to dress to impress. Staff are on hand at WorkSource at any time to help people with resumes, Kluth said, and there will be a resume lab available at the event with professionals to help build a resume as well.
“Then they can make as many free copies of their resumes or cover letters as they need to present to these employers,” she said.
The job fairs have been a big success in the past, Kluth said, in helping people find employment. More than 300 people came to the last event in May.
“It helps a tremendous amount of people,” she said. “(At) our last event, we had really good responses to our surveys that we put out. The employers were really impressed by the amount of job seekers that were here. The job seekers were really happy with the selection that they had. And having a variety of new employers attending this event, I think, is going to excite our job seekers even more.”
