Palmer’s Adventure Farm kicks off Fall Fest

MOSES LAKE — Palmer’s Adventure Farm has begun its Fall Fest over the weekend. Formerly known as StrawBelly’s, the farm held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday afternoon to celebrate their new branding and new location. 

“What we originally started with was a straw maze and that kind made sense for StrawBelly’s,” said Shane Palmer who runs the Farm along with his brother Kyle. “When we changed locations here, we decided to tell the story a little bit more (that) it's more than just a haunted straw maze.” 

This year’s Fall Fest at Palmer’s Adventure Farm will feature many of the staples, such as the straw maze and pumpkin patch, alongside a corn maze, sunflower field and apple blasters, said Shane.  

“The Fall Festival is mostly our you-pick pumpkin patch, that’s kind of the heart of it, bringing families down to pick a pumpkin,” said Kyle. “You’ve got 20 different varieties to choose from and a hay wagon to go out there, so there’s a lot of fun memories there just with family.” 

Shane said the land for the new location has been in the Palmer family for a number of years, starting with their grandfather, Ross Martell Palmer, who turns 90 in October. To honor their grandfather’s legacy, they’ve added the Ross Railroad, which is a trackless train that plays an audio track telling the farm’s history. 

Ross began farming on the land in 1965 where he would grow a large variety of crops on the land throughout the years, including potatoes, primrose, radish, wheat, peas and beans. 

“If it wasn’t for him, we wouldn’t be involved in anything farming and we wanted to do that to honor him,” said Shane. 

Another new addition to the farm is the Zombie Paintball Bus which runs Fridays and Saturdays starting at 7 p.m. Kyle said attendees will ride on a bus with paintball guns mounted on the windows and drive a course where they shoot at zombies.  

“We’ve always thought it’d be fun to add something that dads would enjoy with their kids,” he said. “We added some more things that are adventurous, going with our name, Adventure Farm.” 

The new additions to the farm this year, especially the paintball experience, have the brothers excited for this year’s fall fest. 

“We’re putting together a lot of things (where) there’s something to do for someone,” said Kyle. “I think a lot of people in the community have recognized that and are always excited for that as well.” 

The duo has plans to expand the farm into having a Tulip Festival in the spring and add more festivities in the summer, with the goal to be open all season.

    The Ross Railroad’s trackless train comes around the bend as it reaches the station at Palmers Adventure Farm. The train was added to the farm to honor the legacy of Shane and Kyle’s grandfather Ross Martell Palmer who they said is the reason any of this is possible.

    One of the newest attractions at Palmer’s Adventure Farm started Friday evening with the Zombie Paintball Bus. Riders will be taken on a ride around a track where they will shoot at zombies with paintball guns mounted on the windows of the bus.
  

    Palmer’s Adventure Farm features two corn mazes along with the classic straw bale maze. The larger of the two corn mazes, the Coug Corn Maze, is sponsored by Premier Health.
