MOSES LAKE — At around noon Friday, Grant County Sheriff's Office received a call that a body had been found by a fisherman in Moses Lake — the body of water — near the 7000 block of Dune Lake Road.

“The victim’s neighbors reported that she apparently went out by herself on the pontoon boat sometime before 11 a.m.,” GCSO Public Information Officer Kyle Foreman said. “Then, just past noon, her body was found by a fisherman who was fishing for bass.”

Coroner Craig Morrison has identified the 82-year-old woman as Lailitha Sanathanan of Moses Lake. The next of kin has been notified. Her body is in the care of the coroner, who will be conducting an autopsy Tuesday.

Detectives believe she likely fell off her pontoon boat, which deputies were able to recover from the shoreline, according to a GCSO statement.

There is no threat to the public. Investigating deputies, at this time, believe there was no foul play, according to Foreman. However, an autopsy will be needed to confirm this information.

Foreman encourages anyone participating in water recreation or working near the water to wear a life vest or personal flotation device.

“Of those two, a life vest is preferred,” Foreman said.

The next update will be Tuesday, when the autopsy results are finalized.
