Fire burns in rugged terrain north of Quincy

QUINCY — Firefighters from multiple agencies responded to a brush fire about 11 miles north of Quincy around 1:45 p.m. Thursday. Air tankers were brought in to fight the fire as well.
The fire burned near the intersection of Road P Northwest and Overen Road Northwest, according to information from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. Wildland trucks and water tenders were requested from multiple agencies due to the rugged terrain, heavy fuels and high winds. Area farmers aided crews by plowing a fire line to help stop the advance of the flames in the dry shrub steppe.
No evacuations were required, but Kyle Foreman, public information officer for GCSO, had asked nearby residents to remain alert in case evacuating became necessary.
The fire was contained shortly before 3 p.m. and had gone into mop up with crews expected to stay on site for a few hours to ensure hot spots were completely put out. No structures were damaged or lost and nobody was hurt in the fire.
Efforts were coordinated by MACC 911 and Grand County Fire Districts 3, 7 and 13, along with the Ephrata Fire Department, Royal Slope Fire-Rescue-EMS, the Bureau of Land Management and GCSO all worked together to address the incident.
A cause for the fire had not been released as of press time.
