Crews extinguish small fire in rural Moses Lake
MOSES LAKE – Grant County Fire Districts 5 was called to a brush fire in the 5000 block of Highland Drive in rural Moses Lake at around 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Grant County Fire Districts 7 and 12 provided mutual aid.
Firefighters had believed a mobile home was burning upon first arrival, but that proved not to be the case.
“What was thought to be a manufactured home, we think was more likely just a collection of debris and not a structure,” Grant County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Kyle Foreman said.
Foreman said officials are estimating the fire to be between six and 10 acres. However, GCFD5 Battalion Chief Sean Killion said it was around three to three and half acres.
Mop-up for the fire was completed at around 2:40 p.m., Killion said. There were no injuries or structures lost from the fire.
“I think it showed a great relationship with our neighbors to come together and be able to contain a fire that had the potential to grow beyond what our initial attack was able to put out,” Killion said.
Foreman said Grant County Fire Marshal Nathan Poplawski will be conducting the investigation. Poplawski was not available for comment prior to the press deadline.
