MATTAWA — Two juveniles have been arrested and booked into the Chelan County Juvenile Detention Center in connection with the murder of a Mattawa man Aug. 17. The Mattawa Police Department announced the arrests Thursday night.

The two juveniles are 16-year-old boys from the Mattawa area, according to a release from the Moses Lake Police Department, which worked with Mattawa PD on the case.

"Through the course of the investigation, detectives identified multiple persons of interest and secured arrest warrants. On Sept. 4, (law enforcement officers) arrested two suspects in connection with the shooting," the MLPD release said

The Mattawa PD release did not identify the juveniles and said the case is still under investigation.

The arrests are associated with the death of Miguel Angel Guizar, 19, at Hund Memorial Park. Family members said Guizar was playing basketball at the park when he was wounded in a drive-by shooting. He was transported to an out-of-area hospital but later died. First responders were called to Hund Memorial Park at about 8 p.m. on August 17, where they found Guizar suffering from a gunshot wound.

“No further details will be released at this time,” the release said.

Mattawa PD expressed appreciation to other local law enforcement agencies that assisted in the investigation, and to Mattawa residents for their support. The assisting agencies included the MLPD's Tactical Response Team.

The case remains under investigation, and anyone with information on the crime is asked to call MACC Dispatch at 509-762-1160. The case number for this incident is 25ML11486 with the Moses Lake Police Department or 25MA0571 for the Mattawa Police Department.
