FIRE REPORT: Sept. 2, 2025

COULEE CITY – A fire broke out between Soap Lake and Coulee City just west of Lenore Lake on Monday afternoon in the rimrock area overlooking the lake and State Route 17. According to radio traffic, it began as a fire in light, flashy vegetation and quickly grew to 60 acres and had reached about 400 acres by the end of the day. Several units, including a helicopter, were reportedly fighting the fire. The cause was unknown as of press time.  

The fires below were burning and causing smoke and air quality concerns regionally as of Monday afternoon. 

Bear Gulch Fire: 9,239 acres. 13% contained. Mason County. Started July 6. Human-caused.  

Blackhawk Mountain Fire: 238 acres. No containment. Stevens County. Started Aug. 30. Under investigation.  

Crown Creek Fire: 1,417 acres. No containment. Stevens County. Started Aug. 29. Lightning-caused.  

Egypt Loop Fire: 19 acres. No containment. Lincoln County. Started Aug. 31. Under investigation.  

Grande Fire: 25 acres. 65% contained. Stevens County. Started Aug. 25. Lightning-caused.  

Katy Creek Fire: 600 acres. No containment. Stevens County. Started Aug. 30. Lightning-caused.  

Martin Fire: 116 acres. 5% contained. Chelan County. Started Aug. 27. Under investigation.  

Perry Fire: 600 acres. No containment. Whatcom County. Started Aug. 27. Under investigation.  

Pomas Fire: 3,533 acres. No containment. Chelan County. Started June 13. Lightning-caused.  

Tacoma Creek Fire: 50 acres. No containment. Stevens and Pend Oreille Counties. Started Sept. 1. Under investigation.  

Wildcat Fire: 1,000 acres. No containment. Yakima County. Started Aug. 25. Under investigation. 

Air quality:  

Air quality labels are decided by the air quality index number. Between zero and 50 is good, 51-100 is moderate, 101-150 is unhealthy for sensitive groups, 151-200 is unhealthy, 201-300 is very unhealthy and above 301 is hazardous.  

Ephrata: Moderate, 55 Air Quality Index.  

Moses Lake: Moderate, 64 Air Quality Index.  

Othello: Moderate, 61 Air Quality Index.  

Quincy: Moderate, 55 Air Quality Index.
