MLSD superintendent to address community concerns

MOSES LAKE — Superintendent Carol Lewis is planning to address the entire Moses Lake community at tonight’s Moses Lake School Board meeting about recent misunderstandings during the superintendent's report.  

“On Thursday night, I will state that the Moses Lake School District is fully committed to keeping its promises to voters,” Lewis wrote in an email to the Columbia Basin Herald. “We will not be swayed to spend levy money differently than we stated in the levy information, and we will not create a spending plan that exceeds our anticipated revenue."  

Lewis said this will be the last time she will address the accusations that the Moses Lake School District did not keep its promises, along with the misconception that the district has an excess of money to spend.  

“The intent of the district going forward will be to unite our community around student learning, safety, and the support and success of all our staff,” Lewis wrote.  

Lewis explained that the district is still in recovery from both the budget shortfall and double levy failure in the spring of 2023.  

“We are in a two-year state of recovery, and we will stay on the course,” she wrote.
