Dona Rae Kelly

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loved one, Dona Rae Kelly, at the age of 92.  

Dona, of Moses Lake, Wash., left this world peacefully at the age of 92, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and unwavering love for her family, friends and community. Born in Moscow, Idaho, she completed her education in Hollywood, Calif. Dona was the daughter of Roy and Helen Boggs, the granddaughter of Alex and Ruth Sprouse, the loving wife of Richard "Dick" Kelly, and the mother of Terry Kelly, who preceded her in death.  

Dona is survived by her children that she adored, Kathy Kelly, Rick Kelly, Leo and Irma Deleon; her grandchildren, Katelyn Rae and Kaylee Marie; her great-grandchildren, Truth Rae-Lynn and Tuvao Richard; and a wide circle of family members and cherished friends.  

Upon returning to Moscow in 1952, she married the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Kelly. The couple made their home in Moses Lake, where their family has lived for over 70 years. Dona was well-known in the community for her unwavering commitment to youth and families. She supported Peninsula Little League Baseball alongside her husband for many years. She was also an active leader in the Peninsula School PTA, serving as President numerous times. She even ran for City Council, always advocating for the betterment of her community.

Dona deeply loved her profession and spent nearly 30 years happily employed by Dr. Schafer DDS, building lifelong friendships and earning the admiration of colleagues and patients alike. Her dedication to the dental field led her to serve in leadership roles, including President of both the Washington State Dental Association and the Grant County Dental Assistants Association.

Dona was an iconic fashionista with an eye for style, always impeccably dressed and effortlessly chic. She loved to travel, create new memories, and never passed up a chance to enjoy a good penny slot machine with her best friends. The holidays were Dona’s season to shine. She took immense joy in making her famous spaghetti and homemade fudge that became staples at family gatherings.

To all who knew her, Dona was the "Giving Tree" in human form, a source of generosity, whether she was volunteering time, lending her ear or paving a path to support another’s passion, business ventures or lifelong dream. For the last several years, she had an ongoing scholarship for graduating seniors at Moses Lake High School — The Dona Kelly - ‘It Begins at Home’ Scholarship, continuing her legacy of giving for decades to come.

To her family, Dona was a steady, loving presence and a constant source of strength, laughter, and inspiration. Her home was always a warm and welcoming place, filled with stories and unconditional love. She was a woman of grace and heart, whose life was a reflection of timeless values and deep-rooted family heritage.

She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

A small gathering will be held at the Moses Lake Golf Club & Pillar Rock Grill with family and close friends Nov. 8, 2025.
