Meet the Ephrata mayoral candidates today

EPHRATA — The Ephrata Chamber of Commerce will host a mayoral candidate meet-and-greet Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Pita Pit. Both incumbent Bruce Reim and candidate Steve Oliver will be present and answering questions that the chamber has put together.
The presentation will begin at 6 p.m. However, before and after the presentation, both candidates will be meeting residents and talking about questions and concerns constituents may have, according to a statement from the chamber.
“It will be a little bit of an update on goals and ideas that we have and how we get there, what has been done,” Reim said. “Come out and meet the mayor, get a better understanding of the issues surrounding Ephrata.”
Oliver said he is excited to meet voters and answer questions.
“I want people to ask me in-detail questions, in person,” Oliver said. “I want to know what they think I can do for them. I want to be face-to-face with everyone and see how I can help them personally and what they need to know about where I stand on things.”
Reim said he wants voters to know he is dedicated to the city of Ephrata.
“It is my home,” Reim said. “It's been my home. It will continue to be home, and I'm working to do what's best for the overall citizens of Ephrata.”
Oliver said his interests lie in helping take care of the community.
“I want to proudly serve and make Ephrata prosperous and help move it forward,” Oliver said. “I am hoping to create jobs and stimulate our local economy and have people thrive.”
Both Oliver and Reim said the in-person event is important because it allows constituents a chance to really get to know the candidates.
“I think it gives the residents an idea and a visual presence of the candidates, and to be able to put a face with the words,” Reim said. “I think it is very important and gives the community an opportunity to listen to and understand each of the candidates.”
Oliver reiterated a similar sentiment.
“Anyone can say anything on a keyboard, but you need to see them in person, look them in the eyes, have them answer your questions straight to your face, that makes a difference and shows you who the candidate truly is,” Oliver said.
