Pins for Pink fundraiser expanding to all month
Ten Pin Brewing is holding a fundraiser called Pins for Pink that lasts over two weeks and will culminate with an event on Oct. 18 at Lake Bowl. All proceeds raised will go to the Columbia Basin Cancer Foundation.

MOSES LAKE — Over the next few weeks, Ten Pin Brewing is fundraising for the Columbia Basin Cancer Foundation. The philanthropy will culminate with a celebratory bowling event Oct. 18 at Lake Bowl. Ten Pin CEO Cale Russell said they were looking for new ways to freshen up their fundraiser.
“We've always kind of ran some stuff with them for a long time. We (hosted) some brew festivals, ‘Craft out cancer’ is what it was called. Some things kind of changed and evolved, so (we’re) just looking for new, fun ways to keep things fresh and put some money back in the community,” Russell said.
Fundraising started Wednesday and will continue over the next few weeks. As donations roll in, Ten Pin will match up to $5,000 to donate to the Moses Lake Cancer Foundation. Ten Pin Inn and Suites Manager Heidi Carmain said they try to fundraise for the foundation every October because of the personal connection cancer has to community members.
“Everyone in our facility has been affected by cancer in some sort of way, so it's near and true to all of our hearts. This year, we decided that we'd do it a little differently and just make it a whole month-long event,” Carmain said.
The event being held Oct. 18 is called “Pink Day,” where they will host the Columbia Basin Cancer Foundation and give them a check with the donation money raised in the weeks leading up to the event. They will also have bowling and specials from 2 to 5 p.m.
Carmain said she went to Russell with the idea as a new approach to fundraising this year. She saw an opportunity to give back to the community on a larger scale than in years past.
“The community is what keeps us in business. We've done some fundraisers for the food bank this year, we've done some fundraisers for the animal outreach, and we have a bunch lined up for next year. This kind of just fell into one of the things that we wanted to do, but definitely on a larger scale,” she said.
When she reached out to the Moses Lake Cancer Foundation, they brought some of their own ideas back as well. This year, anyone who donates $5 or more will receive a ribbon to write the name of a loved one they have lost to cancer that will be displayed on their hero wall.
For anyone interested in donating, bins are placed at all of the registers at the Lake Bowl and Ten Pin buildings for cash donations. Carmain also said they are also currently looking for ways to create an online donation option as well.
