Buckets N Boards brings high-energy percussion and fun
MOSES LAKE — Buckets N Boards isn’t easy to define.
“There’s comedy, there’s acrobatics, there’s song and dance,” said Shawn Cardwell, director of Columbia Basin Allied Arts, which is presenting the show Saturday at the Wallenstien Theater.
Gareth Sever and Matt Levingston have been touring the world for more than 10 years with the Buckets N Boards Musical Comedy Percussion Show, a manic display of drumming and dance punctuated with song and silliness. In videos posted online, the two go from drumming on large plastic buckets – and on each other’s hard-hatted heads – to singing and playing ukuleles.
It’s all good, family-friendly fun, Cardwell said, which was one reason for selecting Buckets N Boards for the last Premier Series show of 2025.
“I loved that there was clean comedy,” she said. “We wanted something uplifting and joyful and fun for families for the holiday season.”
Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show starts at 7 p.m. Before the show and during the 10-minute intermission, there will be concessions available from Moore Brewing Co., RM Wineries, Cow Path Bakery, Rowley Farms and Starving Farmer Popcorn.
Tickets are $30, but if they’re bought in advance, there’s a 40% discount with the promo code “holiday,” Cardwell said.
This is CBAA’s first time bringing in a percussion show, Cardwell said, and percussion is at the heart of the performance. Big Bend Community College music instructor John Owen has written a book on percussion, and he’ll have copies available for purchase in the lobby, she said.
“It’s a variety show, but it’s all anchored in really high-energy percussion,” she said.
