EHS senior Chase Moser recognized as student of the month

EPHRATA — Ephrata High School senior Chase Moser has been named as one of the Students of the Month for May, an accolade that his teachers said highlights his exceptional abilities in writing, public speaking and critical thinking.

Moser’s academic journey within Ephrata School District, which began in fourth grade, has been marked by notable achievements and an influential presence both in the classroom and beyond, according to EHS English teacher Don Hendrixson, who nominated him for student of the month.

Moser is set to graduate this spring, and he has plans to further his education at Eastern Washington University, where he will pursue a degree in business with a minor in psychology. He emphasized the versatility of a business degree.

“Business is a very versatile degree,” Moser said. “So, wherever I’m useful is where I plan to work.”

This pragmatic approach, Moser said, is to ensure he can become an asset in any organization he joins, whether in entrepreneurship or corporate environments.

In his current academic year, Moser has been enrolled in a diverse array of classes. When asked about his favorite class, he expressed his enthusiasm for art.

“I am a very expressive person, and I really enjoy painting,” Moser said. “The teacher really encourages me, and so I get to paint my emotions and show the world what I think it needs to recognize.”

His interest has not gone unnoticed. Moser was awarded the Outstanding Artistic Achievement Award in the Visual Arts department by Tobin Springs. Then his dedication earned him recognition as Student of the Month, nominated by Hendrixson.

“He has a great grasp of literature and has improved his understanding,” said Hendrixson. “He has essential skills in reading, writing, and speaking, which will open many doors for him in the future.”

Beyond his academic commitments, Moser is actively involved in various extracurricular activities, including eSports, where he participated as a varsity player for the Rocket League team, and the Future Business Leaders of America chapter, with which he qualified for national competitions. In the FBLA, Moser played an important role in developing a financial app, showcasing his programming and coding talents.

Moser is also a member of the National Honor Society, where he has taken leadership roles in organizing events like Oscar Night and community fundraisers.

“Even though I’m just a member, I try to be active in the club,” Moser said, highlighting his commitment to service and community engagement.

Outside of school, Moser enjoys reading and writing. He is currently working on a fictional story that he describes as a hero’s journey into a world outside this one, reflecting his deep engagement with literature.

“It follows the betrayal of a character whose family was completely wiped out. He has no clue where he came from, and it explores his journey to discover who he really is,” he said.

Authors such as Christopher Paolini and J.R.R. Tolkien influenced his writing, he said, as he admires their complex storytelling and world-building.

Engaging students and creating an inclusive classroom environment are principles Moser said he values deeply.

“I try to make classmates feel comfortable and encourage them to engage without feeling judged,” he said.

His positive influence resonates throughout the school, Hendrixson said, as he actively promotes a supportive atmosphere among his peers.

Moser attributes much of his success to the support he has received from his teachers and family. He acknowledged Hendrixson as a significant mentor in his educational journey.

“He has really influenced the way I write,” and praised his art teacher, Springs, for encouraging his creative expression.

He said he appreciates the role of his parents, emphasizing gratitude for their support.

“All that I have doesn’t really come from me,” he said, reflecting on the values instilled by his family and his strong faith.

As Moser prepares for his next chapter at EWU, both he and his teachers look forward to his future successes.

“Chase is capable of doing a lot of different things,” Hendrixson said, elaborating by saying his potential is matched by his work ethic and commitment.

“I’m really proud of how I’ve been able to build my confidence and develop my creative skills,” Moser said.
