Ferguson signs animal cruelty bill
The Washington State Legislature passed House Bill 1149 which aims to prevent cruelty to animals by increasing penalties and clarifying laws surrounding animal care. Gov. Bob Ferguson signed the bill into law Monday.

OLYMPIA — In a step toward enhancing animal welfare, the Washington State Legislature has passed House Bill 1149, an act aimed at the prevention of cruelty to animals. The bill received overwhelming support, with a vote of 96-0 in the House and 47-1 in the Senate, before being concurred by the House at 85-11. Gov. Bob Ferguson signed the bill into law Monday.
