'Total team performance'
MOSES LAKE – The Mavericks track and field hosted their final home meet last Friday against Eastmont, Davis and Eisenhower where they performed well, according to head coach Mark Ward.
“We were pleased, I would say it was truly, a total, total team performance,” he said.
Calin Dameron finished first place in the 100-meter with a final time of 11.09. He followed up that performance with a top-three finish in the 200-meter. Brady Jay also finished top three alongside Dameron in both races.
Wesley Davis pulled off a personal record performance in the Javelin. Improving his score from 166 to 186 feet.
“[Davis] just uncorked a monster series in the javelin, it was just a great way to end his regular season that way, and start looking toward the postseason,” Ward said.
Madison Bond broke her own school record in the triple jump, placing first at 37 feet, 11 inches.
Meanwhile, Kaiya Char squeezed out a tight victory in the 300-meter hurdles, winning by two hundredths of a second. Her official time was 44.72 and right ahead of 44.74 from an Eastmont athlete. Ward called it the race of the meet, emphasizing the outstanding performance by his athlete.
Liam O’Shea finished first in the 3200-meter race, not only achieving a personal record, but putting himself back in the conversation to qualify for states, according to Ward. His official time was 10:09:38.
Looking forward to post-season action, Ward hopes to build off this momentum and motivate his athletes to perform at this level when they go to districts and potentially states.
“It's about just the individual performance, doing the best we can, supporting one another, not being happy just being at State, but doing our best to perform at State,” Ward said.
