MOSES LAKE – Moses Lake boys (9-4) and girls (9-4) tennis were victorious against the Eisenhower Cadets. The boys forced a shutout 7-0 win while the girls held their own with a 5-2 victory. Head coach Jay Dickinson was enthusiastic about the outcome of this match, considering it was much closer when they last met earlier this season.

“We seem to kind of feel like we're peaking at the right time, which is kind of hard for a long season. Sometimes it wears on you a little bit. So, I’m pretty proud of that,” he said.

Dickinson noted the remarkable difference between each time they played, for instance, no matches went to a third set for either team this go around.

Caleb Dickinson and Colin Stanberry were paired together for the first time in doubles competition and thrived. They were victorious 6-2 in the first two sets.

Senior Elise Miles had a strong performance in singles competition. She was victorious in two sets, winning each 6-1 and 6-0.

“I talked to her afterwards and said, ‘that's what we've seen in you,’ and I think she showed her full potential,” Dickinson said.

As the season has developed, Dickinson has watched his team grow and hone their skills. Part of what has enabled that is the mentality he has coached his players to have. He believes in treating each match like it's a district match.

As the Mavericks move forward, they remain focused on doing what they can to land a top-two seeding for districts to be able to send more players. They will have to go through schools like Eastmont, Wenatchee and West Valley (twice), but Dickinson is confident in his team to get the job done.

They will go on the road to play Eastmont today.
