Jacks earn 9-0 victory against Tonasket

QUINCY – The Quincy Jackrabbits soccer team earned a 9-0 victory over Tonasket during their senior night Tuesday. 

“Honestly, it’s just kind of crazy,” said Jacks senior Kasey Toevs. “I felt like not that long ago, I was a freshman watching all my seniors play and I feel like it just went by so quick.”  

The Jacks have four seniors on varsity this year with multiple other seniors getting to start in their first varsity game during this game, said Jacks’ head coach Hector Vaca. This night was a way to honor those players who have been a part of the program, with some being there since their freshman year. 

“I’ve been grateful to be a Jack, it’s been fun watching all these guys grow up and playing together,” said Jack Romauldo Sandoval. “Now seeing this as our last time, that’s emotional and I’m glad I got to play with all these guys these past four years and I’m excited for what’s coming.” 

The team was coming off a loss against East Valley on Saturday and wanted to use this game to build their momentum going into the offseason. They quickly put up scores throughout both halves of the game, allowing the team to work players into the game who don’t typically get to play too often.  

Quincy is currently slated to place second in the league standings, which puts them up against Othello this Saturday in the first round of the Central Washington Athletic Conference’s 2A District Tournament. These could be subject to change depending on Grandview’s performance over the next couple of days, said Vaca. 

In preparation for the big game this weekend, Vaca said the team is going to remain active and stay healthy. It will be a lot more of the players just continuing to put things in place on the field for the next few days. 

“It’s the little things that we’ve struggled with the whole season,” said Sandoval. “I feel like one thing that we need to work on a lot is tracking back as defenders because we lacked a lot.” 

Their success during the regular season has the team feeling a lot of excitement going into the postseason, given their continued improvements in gameplay and communication throughout the season.  

“I know this team can do great things and I have no doubt in my mind that we can go far,” said Toevs. 

The Quincy Jacks will play the first round of the CWAC 2A district tournament at home Saturday at noon.
