ACSO handles two high-speed chases Thursday

RITZVILLE – Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies had an eventful day Friday that included two high-speed chases, which led to a combined total of four arrests.

In the first incident, two Ritzville men were arrested on suspicion of car theft and other charges following a pursuit through Ritzville and the Lind area March 27.

Chad Pichett, 23, and Boone Holm, 29, were arrested after a chase that started in Ritzville and ended near Lind, according to a release from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

The two men caught the attention of Ritzville Police Department officers, the release said, and allegedly tried to run away from them. Pichett and Holm drove out of Ritzville headed toward Lind, followed by ASCO deputies, eventually stopping on Lind-Warden Road.

Holm stayed at the scene, but Pichett fled on foot. Deputies found him a short time later and he surrendered, ACSO reports.

Pichett was booked on charges of eluding a police vehicle, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, driving while license suspended in the third degree, violating a no-contact order, aiming or discharging firearms/dangerous weapons, reckless endangerment and multiple warrants.

Holm is facing charges of Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle and a Washington Department of Corrections felony warrant.

According to state records, Holm has a felony conviction dating to July 12, 2024, and was sentenced to 98 days of imprisonment.

In the second incident, the Washington State Patrol contacted ACSO shortly before 8 p.m. asking for assistance with a traffic stop on the southbound side of Highway 395 near milepost 94, according to an ACSO statement. WSP had pulled the vehicle over in association with reports that it had been traveling on Interstate 90 earlier and someone had been throwing items at other vehicles from inside.

As deputies responded, the vehicle fled from the trooper, initiating pursuit. Additional deputies joined in the effort to stop the vehicle, identified as a black 2008 Mazda CX-9. The vehicle continued southbound on Hwy. 395 at high speeds and extended about 13 miles before the vehicle turned onto State Route 21 and continued southbound. The vehicle then stopped, and the driver exited.

The driver, Alex Rivera Jr., 35, of Spokane, was arrested and booked on charges of Attempting to Elude a Police Vehicle, Driving While License Suspended in the Third Degree and Operating a Motor Vehicle Without an Interlock Device. A pre-filing case number has been issued in his case, 25-1-00032-01.

According to the ACSO statement, the passenger of the vehicle, reported to be Daniel Rivera, 33, of Sunnyside, then quickly moved into the driver’s seat and fled the scene heading southbound. The vehicle soon turned around and was pulled over with the aid of additional law enforcement vehicles on the scene.

Daniel Rivera was arrested and booked into jail on charges of Attempting to Elude a Police Vehicle and Driving while License Suspended in the Third Degree. Daniel Rivera’s case number is 25-1-00031-01. He also has three felony convictions from a case that was decided in September 2023, for which he was sentenced to 41 months – just under three and a half years – in prison.

“This incident showcased outstanding teamwork between the Washington State Patrol and Adams County deputies,” Adams County Sheriff Dale Wagner said in the statement. “Excellent work by all involved.”
