QUINCY — A vacant lot at the end of Third Street Southwest may become the home of the city of Quincy’s new public works shop. Quincy City Council members approved the purchase of the property at the March 18 Quincy City Council meeting.

The city paid $245,000 for the property, which is at the intersection of Third Avenue Southwest and Division Street West.

Quincy Public Works Director Carl Worley said the city already owned the adjacent land, which is used for the city’s gravel pile.

Quincy City Administrator Pat Haley said there are long-term plans for the land.

“We don’t have immediate plans for construction, but we envision that location for a new public works building for the utility crews,” Haley wrote in answer to an email from the Columbia Basin Herald. “They operate out of a very old facility next to the Public Safety building. That might happen in the next couple of years.”
