OTHELLO — An Othello man was placed under arrest on suspicion of attempted first-degree assault after a dispute at an Othello-area business escalated to gunfire.

Omar Negrete Galvan, 22, was arrested for the assault charge and for possession of a weapon apparently capable of producing bodily harm, according to a release from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office. Negrete Galvan allegedly displayed a weapon while involved in a dispute with a clerk, Johnathan Enriquez, 23, Othello, at an Othello-area business Saturday.

The incident was reported at about 1:40 p.m. Saturday, the release said. Galvan went into the business in the 2100 block of Bench Road and allegedly got into an argument with Enriquez.

“The cause of the altercation remains under investigation,” the release said. “During the conflict, both individuals displayed firearms.”

Negrete Galvan sustained a non-life-threatening wound to the leg and was taken to an out-of-area hospital for specialized treatment of his injuries, the release said.
