Mavs best Tigers 4-0

MOSES LAKE – The Moses Lake Mavericks and the Ephrata Tigers went head-to-head Thursday night on the Ephrata soccer pitch with the game ending with a score of 4-0 in favor of Moses Lake. 

The Mavs scored twice in the first half, resulting in the Tigers going on the defensive early in the game. Ephrata worked to regain control in the second half but were unable to overcome the Mavs’ defense with a goal and a penalty kick putting the Mavs up to four by the end of the game. 

The Tigers look to bounce back and refine their approach in their next match according to coach Ivan Garay. 

Mavs coach Miguel Segura was able to comment after the game and said the key to their victory playing out on the wings. 

“We haven’t really been doing that these past couple of times but we were able to adjust and make sure we were able to get the right midfielders, the right practice and that’s what helped us win today,” said Segura. 

Mavs senior Miguel Arreola was a key player in the match as he moved around and played multiple positions throughout the game, said the coach. 

“This is a team effort,” said Arreola (20) in a post-game interview. “I love my team; I want this team to improve in the few years that it has and if it’s not with me hopefully the next generation takes it up.” 

Going into this game the Mavs had planned to focus on improving their team chemistry. The team has a lot of young players who need more experience starting out this season. 

“A lot of these boys don’t play together,” said Segura “We get two-three months out of the year so we’re just building it little by little.” 

The Mavs look towards their match at Davis on March 25. The Tigers were set to face Yakima over the weekend and will next face Othello on March 25.  

    Moses Lake was able to take a quick lead which forced Ephrata on the defensive.
