Jacks best Goats 4-1

QUINCY – The Quincy Jacks beat the Chelan Goats 4-1 on Tuesday night to gain their first win of the season on the pitch.  

Freshman Joel Flores said their greatest asset in the victory was their ability to communicate. 

“If you don’t communicate, no one knows what they’re doing,” said Flores.  

Quincy coach Hector Vaca said the team also found success in settling down and making sure that they had good ball movement. For the majority of the game, they were able to keep the pressure and the ball on the opponent's side of the field. 

“The gelling is there so it was only a matter of time,” Vaca said. 

In terms of things that the team looks to work on for future games, he said they need to make sure they have better on-the-ball play.  

“It’s really early in the season and with the success that we’ve had in the past, I think just bringing all of that together I think everyone is expecting a lot,” the coach said. 

While the Jacks got their first win, they also suffered a big loss when their goalkeeper got injured late in the game. The player is a team captain and has been a great contributor to the team so far. 

As of now, the coach has his focus on the wellbeing of his player, he said, as he had to be taken to the hospital to assess the extent of his injuries. Vaca does not expect that to pose any issue in the team’s success going forward as the team has two very talented keepers but hopes he will have a steady recovery. 

“He’s just a locker room presence and he’s somebody you just love to have,” said the coach. “He’s a great player, great athlete, great person overall so it’s just unfortunate.” 

Overall, it was a great team win which will give them momentum as they look toward playing Davis, according to the coach. In preparation the Jacks are putting focus on making sure they get players on the team as much experience as possible and getting the early season rust off. 

“Just coming out and playing is what we’re more focused on doing,” the coach said. “It’s a young team still so we’re just trying to come together as a team.” 

    The Jacks were able to play hard on both sides of the ball preventing their opponent from scoring until the final 2 minutes of the game.
