WA gun bill could have major implications for Grant Co. Fair
Senate Bill 5098, sponsored by Sen. Javier Valdez, D-Seattle, had its first hearing in the house Tuesday. Valdez spoke on behalf of the bill saying he was encouraged to write the legislation because of the shooting that occurred at the Grant County Fairgrounds during the Grant County Fair last August.

Grant County Fairgrounds Manager Jim McKiernan and Grant County Sheriff Joey Kriete said they believe the incident would have occurred even if SB 5098 had been in effect because the minor was already illegally carrying the firearm.
Grant County Sheriff Joey Kriete said he has major concerns about Senate Bill 5098. Implementing measures that could be required by the legislation would be extraordinarily expensive and may have little impact.
OLYMPIA — A Washington State Senate bill to ban firearms in public areas where children may be present had its first hearing in the House Civil Rights and Judiciary Committee on Tuesday. More than 50 people were scheduled to testify regarding the bill during the committee meeting.
