DV suspect arrested near Grand Coulee Wednesday

GRAND COULEE – On Wednesday, Grant County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call on State Route 174 East regarding a domestic violence incident.  

“Deputies answer many domestic violence-related calls daily,” GCSO Public Information Officer Kyle Foreman said. “This one escalated to a high level and required several deputies and other officers to help capture this suspect.” 

When deputies arrived and were investigating, the suspect, Duane Crinklaw, 25, ran outside.  

Deputies established containment and used a drone to search for Crinklaw. He was found hiding in an outbuilding. 

Crinklaw was then checked by medical staff at Coulee Medical Center. Following, he was booked into Grant County Jail for second-degree assault, kidnapping and obstructing justice.  

“I can talk in general terms without giving too much away about his victim, but she was not free to leave, and she feared for her life and safety if she did leave which resulted in the kidnapping charge,” Foreman said.  

Domestic violence victims are generally not identified by law enforcement, nor by the Columbia Basin Herald, in order to protect them from additional trauma. The only exceptions are generally when the victim voluntarily steps forward.

The victim was provided resources by New Hope, a local nonprofit that serves those who have suffered from domestic violence.  

“New Hope is our domestic violence and sexual assault resource center in Grant County,” Foreman said. “They can assist victims of domestic violence or sexual assault access additional services, medical care. If they are in a position where they need to be hidden, there are safe houses that victims can be lodged in. They provide court advocacy and victim advocacy and explain the court process to victims. They provide other services but those are the big ones.”
