TACOMA – During Mat Classic XXXVI, five Columbia Basin wrestlers came home with championships and three wrestling teams finished in the top three. Four Basin wrestlers finished second and nine finished third, with several other students placing in the top eight.
The Othello girls team brought home a second-place trophy in Class 2A with 221.5 points. The Royal girls finished second in Class 1B/2B/1A with 181.5 points. The Othello boys team secured third in Class 2A with 178.5 points.

Brock Tracy of Lind-Ritzville wrestles Jesus Arias of Warden in a 285 1B/2B bout. Tracy won the round with a fall in 2:27. Tracy went on to take the championship. Arias went into cons and won one bout and lost his second.
Tessa Hausken of Ephrata won her match against Yasmine Azcunaga of W.F. West with a fall in 4:03.
Erik Camacho, 120, of Warden wrestles Kevin Moehnke of Mary Walker. Camacho won the match with a fall in 2:51. He went on to place sixth in the tournament with 17 points.
Crystal Vargas, 120 of Quincy wrestles Romana Reinitz of Centralia. Vargas lost the bout but came back in cons and one a match.
Xavier Mendez, 106, of Othello beat Shane Spindel of Washington in the second championship round.
Grayce Mendez, 110, of Othello won by decision over Lucy Hornby of W.F. West. Mendez placed second in the tournament with 26 team points.
Porter Wood, 138, of Almira-Coulee/Hartline beat Quincy Paxton of Freeman by decision.
Shea Stevenson, 157, wrestled Nolen Nelson of Castle Rock. Although Stevenson lost the bout he won his following two matches placing third in the tournament.
Junior Santiago, 144, of Warden wrestles Keenean Denison of Tonasket during round two of championships. Denison took the match. However, Santiago returned in cons and placed sixth in the tournament with 16 points.
