Man killed in accidental shooting
MOSES LAKE — An 18-year-old Moses Lake man was killed when he and another man were reportedly playing with a gun late Thursday night.
The incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. in the 500 block of North Dale Road, wrote Moses Lake Police Department Captain Jeff Sursely in a press release. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Detectives responded and determined it was an accidental shooting when the subjects were playing with a gun,” Sursely said.
The second subject was a 22-year-old Moses Lake man. Neither was identified.
The first rule of gun safety, Sursely said in a separate interview, is to remember a gun is a weapon.
“Don’t point the gun at anything you don’t intend to destroy,” he said.
People also should remember to always assume a gun is loaded and to keep their fingers away from the trigger when handling it. Firearms should be locked up when they are not in use, Sursely said.
