Grant GOP discusses selection of prosecuting attorney

EPHRATA – Members of the Grant County Republican Party gathered for their monthly meeting for June last Thursday. The main topic of discussion was organizing for the upcoming selection of a new Grant County prosecuting attorney after current prosecuting attorney Kevin McCrae announced he will be stepping down from his role Aug. 3. 

“I want this prosecutor to be put in so cleanly that they can hit the ground running with no cloud of how they were appointed,” said Andrew Koeppen, Chair for the Grant County Republican Central Committee. 

To ensure the confidentiality of the process, members of the media and county commissioners were asked to step outside of the room for discussion of details for the upcoming selection. Koeppen said this is to ensure there is no interference in the committee's decision. 

As outlined in a press release sent toward the end of May, The Grant County Republican Party Central Committee will recommend three qualified candidates to the Grant County Board of Commissioners.  

The candidate selected by the county commission must be from the same political party as the elective officer vacating the position and must be one of three persons nominated by the central committee of the party as required by the state constitution. 

Today marks the final day for applications to be submitted to the GCRPCC and after today the applicants will be contracted to appear for an interview held at the Ephrata Rec Center, said Koeppen.  

Interviews for the position will be held July 12.  

Applications should include a cover letter explaining the candidate’s interest in the position and a resume of their educational background, a detailed list of previous employment, and a list of professional references, said Koeppen. 

The next meeting for the GCRPCC is planned to be held either July 10 or July 17. More information on their next meeting will be provided at a later date.
