Othello man arrested in stabbing incident

OTHELLO — An Othello man was booked on suspicion of first-degree assault-domestic violence after he allegedly stabbed his partner, then fled the scene Tuesday.

Gilberto Valdovinos-Medina, 36, was arrested after he was found hiding in a house in Moses Lake, according to a release from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office. He allegedly stabbed his partner during a dispute at a residence in the 700 block of South Thacker Road southeast of Othello.

“The victim was transported to Othello Community Hospital, where she received treatment and was later released. Her injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening,” the ACSO release said.

Valdovinos-Medina left the scene before deputies arrived, taking the victim’s car. Working with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office and Moses Lake Police Department, he was traced to Grant County and arrested, the release said.

In addition to the assault charge, Valdovinos-Medina was arrested for felony harassment — domestic violence and first-degree robbery — domestic violence.

Valdovinos-Medina was previously convicted of shooting and killing a heroin dealer, reportedly for undercutting Valdovinos-Medina’s prices, in 2013, according to the Columbia Basin Herald archives. At that time, Valdovinos-Medina entered an Alford plea, meaning he did not admit guilt but believed he would be convicted by a jury, to a charge of first-degree manslaughter in the death of Joaquin O. Serrano in 2011. Valdovinos-Medina was sentenced to 12 years in prison in that case.

Valdovinos-Medina was also arrested in connection with a fight in Ephrata in 2008, and on charges of robbery and assault in a burglary near Moses Lake last year, according to the Columbia Basin Herald archives.
