Moses Lake Alumni Association awards 12 scholarships
MOSES LAKE — Celebrating 19 years of service, the Moses Lake Alumni Association met May 3 at the Columbia Basin Technical Skills Center in Moses Lake to award scholarships for 12 college-bound students. Since its launch in 2007, the MLAA has awarded 252 scholarships worth $277,000, funded by members’ dues and donations.
MLAA members include Moses Lake School District alumni as well as any others who wish to support this community effort, such as scholarship recipients’ parents.
Several donors, including families and groups of graduates, honor deceased family members, teachers and classmates by donating memorial scholarships. This year’s memorial scholarships honor Gary Frey, Bob Schroeder, David Olivas, Linda Schwab, Larry Pope, Bill Mackey and Russell Williams.
This year’s scholarship recipients are Bisente Delion-Oronia, Danika Knopp, Lily Schindler, Allison Ruffin, Daniel Bushnell, Kaylee Scheideman, Cooper Hancock, Maite Betes, Kalei Bruce, Selah Loomis, Brayden Helvy, and LLayleni Fuentes. The 12 students are bound for colleges in Washington, Idaho and Oregon to study trade skills, medical-dental, business and education fields.
The board of directors include Nathan Clark, president and temporary treasurer; Tami Mackey, vice-president; and Susan Blackwell, secretary. The scholarship committee includes Stacey Clark, Shirley Pryor, Cynthia Calbick, Judy Madewell and Kris Chudomelka.
