QUINCY MAYORAL RACE: Paul Worley

QUINCY – Paul Worley is running for re-election for Quincy Mayor. Worley has been on the city council for 12 years and mayor for eight. 

“We’ve got several projects ongoing that I want to see finished out,” said Worley.  

The city is in the process of putting in a new swimming pool and updating Paul Lauzier Park with a new recreation facility. The facility is set to feature several baseball fields and numerous other amenities, said Worley. 

He said that prior to his time on city council, he worked in operations on wastewater and water. This knowledge has given him great knowledge on the inner workings of the city systems. 

One of the challenges the city of Quincy has been facing in recent years is the rapid growth it has been seeing, he said. 

“We’re growing fast and trying to keep up with the growth,” said Worley. 

During his time as mayor, the city has been working on following their six-year and 20-year plans and updating them yearly based on the growth that they’ve been seeing, he said. 

“You have to redo it every year anyway, but ours is sometimes if we have a big project, we might do a water or a street project sooner than it was actually planned,” said Worley. “We try to keep continuity, and we always are maintaining services for the public.” 

Worley said that the people of Quincy are always welcome at the council meetings and if they ever can’t make it and have questions then the records of the meetings will always be accessible to the public. Council meetings will always be held at the same place at the same time, and other events within the city will be announced on the city's website and through Facebook. 

Through his years as mayor, he has learned a lot about how the city works and how important it is to work alongside the city council to get things done. He said when it comes to making important decisions, he will wait until all members can be present before they decide on something. 

“I try to put everything as I call them, to the band of seven, my seven councilmen,” said Worley.  

With the current city council in place and the projects that they’ve started, Worley said he wants to continue with the work they’ve been doing in Quincy. 

“All I want is continuity with all our projects and I feel fairly blessed because I have a pretty good staff right now,” he said.
