BASIN HOOPS ROUNDUP: ACH boys, Wilson Creek girls stack wins
MOSES LAKE — With February quickly approaching, district playoffs will soon begin for boys and girls basketball teams across the state. Read along for a look at where local teams are in their respective league standings, as well as an update on recent games.
Almira/Coulee-Hartline
Boys (14-1)
Having defeated Valley Christian 76-39 and Wilbur-Creston-Keller 62-45 last week, the Warriors continued their winning ways with Tuesday night’s 76-51 road win over Garfield-Palouse, who leads the Wheat division of the Southeast 1B league. The Warriors, 8-1 in league games, host Mary Walker on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Girls (8-7)
ACH lost 79-48 on the road against Garfield-Palouse on Tuesday night in a non-league matchup, giving the Warriors their third consecutive loss after dropping games against Valley Christian (50-46) and Wilbur-Creston-Keller (36-35) last week. The Warriors are 6-3 in Northeast 1B games this winter, sitting at fifth in the league standings.
Ephrata
Boys (3-11)
Following Friday’s 72-47 road loss against Grandview, the Tigers got back in the win column with a 68-55 win over Okanogan on Tuesday, defeating the Bulldogs after senior Payton Riggs scored 26 points and junior Brady Hendrick scored 22 points. The Tigers travel to Selah on Thursday and host Quincy on Friday.
Girls (0-15)
Ephrata fell 60-27 to Okanogan on Tuesday, and travels to Selah on Thursday night. Still seeking their first win, the Tigers host Quincy on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
Lind-Ritzville/Sprague
Boys (5-10)
The Broncos ended their six-game losing streak on Tuesday night, taking down Upper Columbia Academy 54-44 at home to earn their first Northeast 2B league win of the winter. LRS travels to Asotin on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
Girls (10-5)
Tuesday’s 60-24 home win over Upper Columbia Academy gave the Broncos their fourth win over their last five games, improving to 10-5 overall and 4-2 in the Northeast 2B league. LRS is tied with Colfax for second in the league standings; the Broncos defeated the Bulldogs 59-52 on the road Jan. 11, and the two teams play again in Ritzville on Feb. 1.
Moses Lake
Boys (7-7)
After falling 79-52 on the road against West Valley (Yakima) on Jan. 11, Moses Lake got back in the win column with Thursday’s 83-38 road win over Cascade (Leavenworth). On Friday, the Mavericks lost to league-leading Davis 62-57 on the road, dropping them to 7-7 overall and 3-2 in the Columbia Basin Big 9.
Moses Lake remains tied with Sunnyside in the Big 9 standings, with both teams posting 3-2 records in league play; the Mavericks host the Grizzlies on Friday night at 7 p.m.
Girls (5-9)
Moses Lake earned its fifth win of the season with a 47-37 road win over Cascade (Leavenworth), but fell to 80-24 to Davis on Friday and 67-34 to White River in a non-league matchup Monday. The Mavericks are 5-9 overall and 1-4 in the Big 9, tied with Sunnyside for fifth place in the league.
Moses Lake hosts the Grizzlies on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
MLCA/CCS
Boys (11-2)
The Lions lost their second game of the season Tuesday night, falling 60-53 in a road non-league matchup against La Salle. Prior to the loss, MLCA/CCS had defeated Entiat 69-43 at home to improve to 5-0 in Central Washington B games this winter, leading the league standings. The Lions host Wilson Creek on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Girls (7-6)
MLCA/CCS is riding a five-game winning streak after defeating Cascade Christian 52-23 on Tuesday; since Jan. 7, the Lions have defeated Soap Lake 39-37, Liberty Christian 46-41, Easton 50-14 and Entiat 57-43. The Lions are third in the CWB standings with a 4-1 mark in league games, and host Wilson Creek on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Othello
Boys (0-15)
Ahead of Tuesday’s game against Quincy, the Huskies fell in home outings against Wenatchee (67-53 on Jan. 14) and Prosser (88-40 on Jan. 17). Othello lost 61-52 to the Jacks on Tuesday, with freshman LJ Nunez leading the Huskies with 17 points and senior Samson McDonald closely behind with 16 points.
Othello hosts league-leading Grandview on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Girls (5-10)
The Huskies have won two of their last three games, having taken down Wenatchee 38-30 on Jan. 14 led by freshman Meila Zuidema’s 11 points and Quincy 44-38 on Tuesday, where senior Emi Pruneda led the Huskies with 17 points. Othello hosts Grandview on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
Quincy
Boys (7-10)
Coming off losses to Grandview (94-58 on Jan. 14) and Selah (74-63 on Friday), the Jacks got their seventh win of the 2024-25 season with Tuesday night’s 62-51 win over Othello, led by junior Pierce Bierlink’s 33 points in the win. Quincy travels to Ephrata on Friday night at 7 p.m.
Girls (3-14)
Quincy fell in its ninth consecutive game on Tuesday, losing 44-38 on the road against Othello where junior Penelope Thorsen led the Jacks with 14 points. The Jackrabbits travel to Ephrata on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
Royal
Boys (13-1)
After beginning the season 12-0, Royal lost its first game of the season on Friday night, falling 86-78 in overtime against Zillah. Sophomore Manny Ruvalcaba led the Knights with 23 points in the loss, followed by sophomore Grant Wardenaar’s 22 points. Royal earned another win on Saturday against Chelan, defeating the Mountain Goats 68-35.
Royal, 8-1 in SCAC games this winter and second in the league standings, hosts Connell on Friday at 7:15 p.m.
Girls (8-6)
Royal lost 61-37 against Zillah on Friday night, but rebounded Saturday with a 51-28 win in a non-league matchup against Chelan. The Knights have a 5-4 record in SCAC contests and stand in fifth place of the league standings.
The Knights host Connell on Friday at 5:45 p.m.
Soap Lake
Boys (6-6)
Tuesday’s 83-40 win over Pateros gave the Eagles their fourth win in a row and fifth in their last six games, also defeating Nespelem 76-36, Entiat 55-46, Wilson Creek 60-38 and Oroville 63-57 over that stretch. The Eagles, 4-3 in CWB games, are tied with Oroville for fourth place in the league ahead of Thursday’s home game against Thorp.
Girls (5-8)
Soap Lake’s three-game win streak was snapped with Tuesday’s 65-31 home loss against Pateros, dropping the Eagles to 5-8 overall and 3-4 in CWB games. The Eagles, fifth in the league, travel to league-leader Waterville-Mansfield on Friday at 6 p.m.
Wahluke
Boys (6-9)
The Warriors defeated College Place 79-64 on Jan. 11, but fell in both of their most recent matchups; first a 60-56 road loss against Kiona-Benton on Jan. 14 before a 53-45 road loss against Cashmere on Saturday. Wahluke hosts league-leading Zillah on Friday at 7:15 p.m.
Wahluke sits tied with Kiona-Benton for fifth place in the SCAC standings.
Girls (0-15)
Coming off losses to Kiona-Benton and Cashmere, the Warriors host league-leading Zillah on Friday at 5:45 p.m.
Warden
Boys (3-13)
After defeating River View 68-52 at home on Friday, the Cougars fell to Okanogan 99-44 on Saturday and Columbia (Burbank) 71-48 on Tuesday – both games were on the road. Warden posts a 3-4 record in Eastern Washington Athletic Conference (East) games this winter, one game back of Mabton for third place in the league. The Cougars travel to Tri-Cities Prep on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Girls (3-13)
Like the boys basketball team, the Warden girls defeated River View 50-34 on Friday before falling 69-29 to Okanogan on Saturday and 48-38 to Columbia (Burbank) on Tuesday. Warden is tied with Tri-Cities Prep for third place in the EWAC (East) standings, as both teams have 3-4 records in league games; the two teams meet Friday at 6 p.m.
Wilson Creek
Boys (5-10)
The Devils ended their four-game skid with a win over Eastom on Saturday, defeating the Jaguars 40-24 on the road. Wilson Creek travels to league-leading MLCA/CCS on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Girls (8-5)
Coming off Saturday’s 52-24 win at Easton, the Devils have now won five of their last six games; a 34-24 win at MLCA/CCS, a 42-37 win at Entiat, a 28-17 win vs. Cascade Christian and a 37-20 win vs. Waterville-Mansfield ahead of the win over the Jaguars. Wilson Creek posts a 5-2 record in league games this season, checking in at fourth in the CWB standings.
