COLUMBIA BASIN — Crafts, hoops, dancing and handbells are just part of what’s in store for the Basin this week. Here are a few things to check out:

Jan. 10

Coffee and Conversation

Every month the Downtown Moses Lake Association hosts a different presentation from employees or business owners in Moses Lake. This is open to the public, and the coffee is free. 8:30 a.m. at Mason’s Place, Smith Martin Building, 102 E. Third Ave., Moses Lake. Info: Director@downtownmoseslake.org or 509-770-1700.

H.E. Gritman Senior Center Fundraising Breakfast

Enjoy a homemade breakfast of pancakes and sausage or biscuits and gravy and sausage. Cost is $7 and all ages are welcome. Takeout orders accepted during breakfast hours. All proceeds go to support the activities at the Senior Center. 7:30-10 a.m. at 118 W. Main Ave., Ritzville. Info: 509-659-1921.

Jan. 11

Elks Hoop Shoot free throw competition

Boys and girls 8-13 years old are invited to participate in a free throw contest. Must bring a parent or guardian to sign you up. Once all participants are registered the contest will begin. Winners in each age group will move on to the next level. 9 a.m. at Frontier Middle School, 517 W. Third Ave., Moses Lake. Info: moseslakeelks@gmail.com.

Hot Spots shooting competition

Free basketball shooting competition for boys and girls ages 6-13. Top two from each age group will compete at halftime of the high school varsity games on Jan. 14. Sponsored by Ephrata Parks and Recreation. 9 a.m.-noon at the Ephrata High School New Gym, 333 Fourth Ave. NW. Info: www.ephrata.org.

Crafternoon

Dancing with the Moses Lake Stars

Six local talents will compete, dancing with professionals from the Utah Dance Company. The winner receives the coveted mirror ball trophy — and bragging rights. There are many ways for the public to help them win — donate to a dancer, buy tickets to the event and vote for your favorite. Proceeds support the Central Basin Community Concert Association. Winter handbell choir concert

An evening of music featuring the Othello Christian Church Disciples of Christ handbell quartet as well as music from special guest artists. 3 p.m. at Othello Christian Church Disciples of Christ, 915 E. Rainier St. Info: 509-488-2208.

Jan. 13

Books & Brushes Craft Time

Family arts and crafts programs feature crafts that you can make at the library and take home. Stop by anytime between 2:30 and 4 p.m. at the Ephrata Public Library, 45 Alder St. NW. Info: 509-754-3971.

Jan. 14

Themed Trivia: 2024 in review

Grab some friends and show your trivia chops recapping the year that just wrapped up. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams. 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Moses Lake Taproom, 530 W. Valley Road. Info: 509-707-0052.

Jan. 15

Brewing Connections Ritzville

Raising a child with special needs can be challenging, but you’re not alone. Join Parent to Parent of Grant/Adams County for an exciting evening of brewing connections to connect with other parents on a similar journey. Because finding care for children can be difficult, activities will be provided for them, and they’ll have the chance to meet other children too. 5-6:30 p.m. at Jake’s Cafe, 1604 W. Jan. 16

Free Mobile Market 

Free food items will be distributed, including an assortment of nonperishable and fresh items, to anyone in need of food assistance. No appointment or documentation required. Snow Day with Charlie Brown & Friends

Spend an evening painting the Peanuts gang enjoying a snow day. Will have stencils for Linus building a snowman, Lucy skating, Snoopy and the birds sledding and Charlie Brown making a snow angel. Beginner’s Candle Making

Join us for candle-making fun. You’ll create beautiful and fragrant candles. We will have a variety of jars, scents, and wax colors. Each student will leave class with up to four candles.
