Alberto B. Morales
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of our beloved brother Alberto (Bert) B. Morales. He died of natural causes Nov. 2, 2024, in Moses Lake. Bert was born Nov. 19, 1947, in Lerdo, Durango, Mexico, to Elvira Lopez and was raised in Edinburg, Texas. He entered the United States with his mother and sister Rosa in 1955.
He enjoyed learning and receiving an education. He earned his diploma in 1967 from Agua Fria Union High School in Avondale, Ariz. He continued his studies in an automotive mechanic program in Yakima County. Bert volunteered to serve our country in 1969 in the Army. He was deployed to the Vietnam War as a medical laboratory specialist. He then served in the National Guard. He attended the University of Washington and studied science and Spanish. Bert worked at Lamb Weston, Connell, Wash., for many years and retired as a machine operator. His undiagnosed PTSD started to surface which contributed to his poor health and early death.
Bert was a hard worker, protective, and was a father/big brother figure to his younger sisters. He would ask his sister, Rosa, "Do you need any food?" which indicated he cared. He didn't show much emotion and was a man of few words. He would give birthday gifts and secretly give money. His favorite lines were: "How much you pay for it?" At the card table he'd say: "Golly" and "Pot it!"
Thank you, brother Bert, for your military service to our country. You sacrificed a lot and your life was changed forever. You left a big void in our lives. Our holiday get-togethers are not the same without you. We miss you!
Bert is preceded in death by his mother, Elvira, brother Lucas, sister Janie and stepfather Benjamin. He is survived by his sister, Rosa (Raul) Cantu of Othello, Celia (Charlie) Guzman of Moses Lake, Benjamin Ruiz Jr. of Othello and Martin Ruiz (Carol) of Pasco, Wash.
A special thank you to Susan Freeman and staff and also a dedicated network of veteran representatives: Fil Rivera, Rudy Lopez, Anthony Garcia, Othello VFW and Jose and Delia Cantu. We greatly appreciate your help!
Bert will be laid to rest in a Christian burial with military honors at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Othello, Wash., on May 9, 2025.
Eternal rest grant unto brother Bert, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May you rest in peace. Amen.
