Wildcats headed to Westwood for rugby battle with No. 11 UCLA
ELLENSBURG – The number 10 ranked Central Washington University Wildcats rugby team, currently sitting at 2-2, will be headed to Westood, Calif., this weekend for a pairing against UCLA in the team’s third away game for the season.
Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Wallis Annenberg Stadium.
"It's another tough challenge for us this Saturday down in Westwood against a quality side who will be up for the challenge also,” CWU head rugby coach Todd Thornley said.
The Bruins have a strong record with three wins and one loss coming into the competition. They’ve had solid wins over UC Santa Barbara and the University of Arizona. Their latest victory was a 30-27 win on their home field.
The Wildcats are coming off a tough 33-13 loss against the Gaels of St. Mary’s College last Saturday. While the ‘Cats lost, CWU’s Oscar Treacy stood out with two tries and Jac Tregoning contributed with a penalty kick for CWU and should be a key player to watch in this Saturday’s game.
Historically, the Wildcats have a 5-0 record against the Bruins and their most recent pairing resulted in a 38-19 victory for Central Washington in March of last year. The Wildcats started their undefeated run against the Bruins in the 2015-16 season.
