Doyle Thomson, 90, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away Feb. 16, 2025, at his home in the Coventry House Assisted Living with his daughter by his side.

Doyle was born Jan. 25, 1935, in Teton, Idaho, to Ethel Eliza Hobbs Thomson and Charles Thomson. He attended school there and in St. Anthony, Idaho. He joined the U.S. Army in 1954 and spent 16 months in Korea.

Doyle married Jean Hinckley on Nov. 22, 1957, in Burton, Idaho, and then moved to Rupert, Idaho. Doyle worked as a carpenter on houses, churches and commercial buildings. He worked for JR Simplot, building the plant in Heyburn, Idaho. Doyle joined the Washington-Idaho Carpenters' Union in 1960.

Doyle's name was drawn to buy a farm in Othello on the Columbia Basin Project. They arrived in Othello in October 1962, and in March 1963, they moved an Army barracks from Ephrata, which cost them $500 and Doyle made it into a two-bedroom home. Farming was hard, and they had to haul water from 16 miles away and had to borrow some equipment from neighbors to farm. Doyle worked various construction jobs as well to make ends meet. They raised hay, grain and beans. After many rough years farming, they sold the farm and moved to Othello. Doyle started working for PJ Taggares as well as Kent Farms and other contractors in the area. After working for PJ Taggares for 27 years, he retired. He was a union carpenter for 38 years, having the most hours in the union a lot of the years.

Doyle's wife, Jean, passed away July 9, 2019. They were married 61 years and blessed with three sons and one daughter.

Doyle is survived by his daughter, Jacqueline (Dale) James of Heber City, Utah; son, Michael (Kim) Thomson of Herriman, Utah; son, Derk Thomson of Moses Lake, Wash.; grandchildren, Taylor Thomson, Cassie Thomson, Samantha (Brady) Jones, Phebe James, Ian James, Oliver James, Max James; and great-grandchildren Braxton Jones, Nicole Jones, Stetson Jones and Kymber Jones.

Doyle was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Hinckley Thomson; parents Charles and Ethel Hobbs Thomson; sisters Helen Romrell, Margaret Farley and Inez Archer; brothers Virgil Thomson and Wayne Thomson; and son Shelby Thomson.

A celebration of Doyle's life will be planned for family and close friends. Doyle and Jean's ashes will be buried near their son, Shelby at the Bess Hampton Memorial Cemetery in Othello, Wash.
