With deep sorrow, the Determan family announces the passing of Charles J. Determan, 86, on Jan. 31, 2025, in Moses Lake, Wash. Charles was surrounded by his beloved wife, Gloria Determan, and their two children, Charlene Fuchs of Moses Lake, Wash., and Jerome Determan of Camas, Wash. Regrettably, his second child, Gail Peters, passed away Jan. 29, 2002. Charles is survived by his six grandchildren, Jonathan Peters, Brittani Basilio, Jessica Pena, Nicholas Harle, Tate Determan and Brooklyn Determan, as well as seven great-grandchildren.

Born to Jerome and Dolly Determan on Dec. 8, 1938, in Belle Fourche, S.D., Charles enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1956, where he served honorably for six and a half years aboard the USS Bremerton. Upon returning, he met Gloria Rosales, and they married June 29, 1963. The family eventually settled in Moses Lake, Wash., after a journey from South Dakota to Idaho Falls.

Charles worked at various places, including the U and I sugar factory and later at the Hanford nuclear power plant. In 1979, he and Gloria opened the Char Glo School of Beauty, which they operated together for 46 years. Charles also ran CJ Construction.

One of Charles and Gloria's notable achievements was establishing a work experience program at Moses Lake in 1981, connecting Moses Lake High School and Char Glo School of Beauty, now known as CBTECH.

Active in his community, Charles served as lieutenant governor for Kiwanis, coached girls softball, and was president of the cosmetology school owners association in Washington. His dedication to sponsoring various activities and events made a lasting impact in his community.

Charles touched the lives of many individuals and will be deeply missed.

Condolences and flowers can be sent to Char Glo School of Beauty at 1418 S. Pioneer Way, Moses Lake, WA 98837.

A service to honor Charles Determan will take place at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church at 200 N. Dale Road in Moses Lake, Wash., on Friday, March 7, 2025, starting at 10:30 a.m.
