BASIN HOOPS ROUNDUP: Some teams advance, some go home in district basketball

MOSES LAKE — The field is narrowing as boys and girls basketball teams from around the Columbia Basin work their way toward the state tournaments. Some teams are already on their way to state; others are still in contention. Where teams are and where they’re headed is listed below.
Almira/Coulee-Hartline
Boys (21-1)
The Warriors qualified for the 1B state tournament with a 74-62 win over Wellpinit on Feb. 15. That doesn’t mean, however, they’re automatically headed for the Spokane Arena, the traditional site of State B. There are a couple more rounds to go, starting with a game Saturday at 5 p.m. against DeSales at Lewis & Clark High School, Spokane.
Both winner and loser advance to the first round of the state tournament, with game times and opponents to be determined.
Girls (13-11)
ACH missed a chance to qualify for the state tournament, losing 50-36 to Inchelium on Feb. 15. But they did qualify for the next round of district play and will square off against DeSales at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Lewis & Clark High School. The winner will advance to the state tournament.
Lind-Ritzville-Sprague
Boys (9-14)
LRS is still alive in the District 6 2B tournament, defeating Newport 71-53 on Feb. 15. That followed at 79-24 loss to Freeman on Feb. 13. The Broncos still have a chance to advance, playing Liberty (Spangle) at 5 p.m. Wednesday at West Valley High School, Spokane. The loser is done for the season.
Girls (14-8)
The Broncos fell 57-41 to Davenport on Feb.13, but beat Upper Columbia Academy (Spangle) 59-26 on Feb. 15. With the win LRS advances to play Colfax at 8 p.m. Wednesday at West Valley HS. The loser is out.
Moses Lake
Boys (12-9)
Moses Lake opened the Big 9 tournament Tuesday in a loser-out game against Eastmont; the score was not available at press time. The loser of that game went home. The winner advances to a loser-out game Thursday against the winner of the Eisenhower-Sunnyside game Tuesday.
Girls (7-13)
The Mavericks finished fifth in the Big 9, losing 41-37 to Sunnyside at Sunnyside on Feb. 13 in the regular season finale. Moses Lake qualified for the first round of the District 5 tournament, playing Eastmont on Tuesday in a loser-out game. The score was not available at press time.
MLCA/CCS
Boys (18-2)
The Lions defeated Soap Lake 58-23 Monday to advance to the District 5 1B championship game against Waterville-Mansfield Thursday at 8 p.m. at Wenatchee High School. The winner advances to the state tournament, while the loser plays in a loser-out game Saturday.
Girls (13-9)
The MLCA/CCS girls finished their season with a 37-31 loss to Soap Lake in the District 5 1B tournament Feb. 13.
Royal
Boys (22-1)
Royal has already punched its ticket to the state tournament, winning its South Central Athletic Conference semifinal game 70-49 over Cashmere. That set up a rematch with Zillah for the third time this season at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Wenatchee High School. Both teams will advance to the state tournament, with opponents and the game schedule to be determined.
Girls (11-12)
The Knights finished their season in the SCAC tournament with a 46-35 loss to Cascade (Leavenworth) on Feb. 15
Soap Lake
Boys (10-10)
The loss to MLCA/CCS dropped the Eagles into the consolation bracket, setting up a game against Oroville at 8 p.m. Thursday at Wenatchee High School
Girls (8-11)
The Eagles dropped into the consolation bracket of the Central Washington 1B tournament with a 76-19 loss to Waterville-Mansfield on Feb. 15. Soap Lake will play Wilson Creek on Thursday in a loser-out game at 6 p.m. at Wenatchee High School.
Wahluke
Boys (9-15)
The Warriors finished their season with a 70-63 loss to Kiona-Benton on Feb. 14 in the second round of SCAC tournament.
Wilson Creek
Boys (10-13)
The Devils finished their season Feb. 14, losing 56-51 to Soap Lake in the District 5 tournament.
Girls (13-8)
Wilson Creek dropped into the consolation bracket of the District 5 tournament, losing 62-18 to Pateros on Feb 15. The Devils will play Soap Lake in a loser-out game at 6 p.m. Thursday at Wenatchee High School, with the winner still having a chance to advance to the first round of the state tournament.
