Moses Lake man arrested for alleged assault after standoff

MOSES LAKE — A Moses Lake man was booked into the Grant County Jail on suspicion of first-degree burglary and fourth-degree assault after he allegedly broke into a woman’s home late Christmas night. 

Paul White, 62, was charged with third-degree malicious mischief as well as the burglary and assault charges, according to information from the Grant County Jail. He refused to come out of his residence and had to be removed by the Moses Lake Regional Tactical Response Team, said Kyle Foreman, public information officer for the Grant County Sheriff’s office, in a media release. 

White allegedly broke into the rural Moses Lake home of a woman he knew at about 10 p.m. Christmas night, Foreman said. The woman was injured during the incident.  

“(The victim) was able to call 911 after White walked out of the home and left in his car,” Foreman said. “A short time later near Road 6 SE and Road L SE, White passed one of the deputies responding to the 911 call. The deputy turned around and followed White to a home in the 10200 block of Road SE, where White went inside and refused to come out.” 

Sheriff’s deputies, Moses Lake Police officers and TRT officers surrounded the home and attempted to negotiate with White, Foreman said. 

“When talking didn’t result in White’s surrender, the TRT entered the home and safely took White into custody,” he said.  

White was arrested at about 5 a.m.
