Beryl Jeane Moore Kinney
Beryl Jeane was born in Wenatchee, Wash., on May 18, 1929, to parents Eunice Averill (Isenhart) Moore and Kenneth Moore of Wenatchee, Wash., where she was raised. She graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1947. Her happiest memories as a child were made at the family cabin on Lake Wenatchee, where she spent many weekends. She admitted to being a tomboy.
Beryl Jeane, nicknamed BJ, attended Washington State College – now known as Washington State University – in Pullman, Wash., where she pledged Tri Delta Sorority and majored in Home Economics. During Christmas break, her mother’s friend and neighbor brought her son, Paul, over to meet Beryl Jeane to arrange a ride back to campus. Paul would come over every day to visit and if Beryl Jeane wasn’t there, he would visit with her mom instead. They began dating. They liked to go to the Coug on the WSC campus to study, going to movies on weekends. When Paul told her parents that they were going to get married, her father’s first question was, “When?”. They married in 1950 and remained so until Paul’s death in 1999.
Upon Paul’s graduation with a degree in premed and pharmacy, they returned to Wenatchee, where he worked as a pharmacist and managed the Central Drug Store for his dad. Beryl Jeane worked part-time in the drug store and in the Isenhart Furniture store's drapery department. They moved back to Pullman so Paul could continue his education, and he was accepted at Washington University Medical School in St. Louis. Beryl Jeane gave up her schooling to care for their first child. Paul spent 40 years delivering babies and making house calls before retirement, when they moved to Yakima, Wash., to be closer to their children.
Beryle Jeane finally received her bachelor’s degree from WSU in 1971, when she took extension courses, graduating the same year as her oldest son.
Beryle Jeane had an adventurous soul. She obtained her private pilot’s license while living in Ephrata. She fondly remembered her 25th wedding anniversary gift, a whitewater rafting trip with her family on the Middle Fork Salmon. She and Paul traveled on mission trips to Puerto Rico and La Paz, Mexico. They both loved to travel, with Mexico being a favorite location. They hosted foreign students through Rotary and AFS, and international guests through the Chamber of Commerce.
Beryl Jeane was very involved in the Washington State Medical Auxiliary, serving a term as their state president and as a committee chair for the national organization. She was involved for over 30 years, along with Paul, in the Ellensburg Western Art Association, retiring from the board of directors in 2006. Beryl Jeane was on the Ephrata Methodist Church board of directors and building committee. She was a member of Phi Beta Phi while in Ephrata and a 50-year PEO member, which she continued when they moved to Yakima. Beryl Jeane was a very involved parent to four active children as a Band Parent, Camp Fire Mom, PTA, track mom and snow skiing, which she and Paul both enjoyed. Beryl Jeane was also an exceptional cook.
Beryl Jeane was a resident of The Terraces at Summitview since 2014.
She is survived by her children; Bruce Kinney of Camano Island, Wash., Marsha (Jerry) Lance and Lowell Kinney of Yakima, Wash. and David (Caroline) Kinney of Shelton, Wash.
Beryl Jeane is preceded in death by her only sibling, Lowell Moore, and his wife, Della, of Ephrata, and her daughter-in-law, Linda Kinney of Yakima.
