EPHRATA — Columbia Ridge Elementary Music Director Alicia Keegan has been selected to participate in the 2026 Pasadena Rose Parade as part of the Band Directors Marching Band. This ensemble will comprise 350 band directors from across the United States, marching along a 5.5-mile route Jan. 1, 2026.

The theme of this year’s parade entry is “America’s Band Directors: We Teach Music. We Teach Life.” This theme celebrates the contributions of music educators, highlighting their dual role in teaching music and imparting essential life skills to students.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the importance of music education. Singing, dancing, and playing instruments are part of a balanced education,” Keegan said.

The band will be directed by music educator Jon Waters, director of the Falcon Marching Band at Bowling Green University in Kentucky, who is known for his innovative approach to music education. Waters will oversee rehearsals and lead a Bandfest performance in Pasadena prior to the parade, ensuring that the participating band directors are well-prepared for the event.

Keegan’s selection for this speaks not only to her dedication as a music educator but also to the broader mission of music education in nurturing young minds, according to a statement from the Ephrata School District.

Throughout her career, Keegan has mentored countless students, guiding them in both musical proficiency and personal development.

“As educators, we have the incredible responsibility of shaping the future of our students,” Keegan said. “Through music, we teach them teamwork, discipline and creativity.”
