Alicia G. Medel

| August 25, 2025 2:54 PM

Alicia G. Medel, 84, a beloved mother and grandmother, was called home Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2025.

Alicia was born Oct. 27, 1940, in Ciudad Mier, Tamaulipas, Mexico. In 1951, she made her way to the Lower Yakima Valley, where she continued her education while assisting her family working in agriculture. She then continued in Othello working at Chef Ready, in time finding her home in Moses Lake, where she worked at U&I Sugar and taught as a Spanish instructor at Big Bend Community College. Later, she retired as a medical assistant from Moses Lake Community Health, where she was cherished by both her coworkers and her patients.

A devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Alicia served her community in countless ways. She was a Cursillista, a member of the Sacred Heart Guild, a Catechism instructor for children, a lector and lector coordinator and assisted families in baptism preparation.

Alicia was the ultimate homemaker and an extraordinary seamstress, capable of replicating any design and creating her own. She lovingly made clothing for her children, everything from simple dresses and tops to wedding gowns and Quinceañera dresses for family and friends. She also had a passion for cooking, making family favorites such as chocolate con bolillo on Sunday morning before church, capirotada during Lent, and her grandchildren’s favorite pancakes from scratch, French toast, arroz con leche and cafecito con leche.

Her home was always filled with faith, the warmth of music, and food made with love.

Alicia is survived by her children: Alicia T. Raygoza, Araceli (Daniel) Campos, Conchita Medel, Marisol Gazca, Alvairis (Nico) Gasca, Junior Medel, and Moises (Elena) Medel; as well as numerous beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Fane Gonzalez; her brothers, Jose Geofrey and Joel Gustavo Gonzalez; her son, Jorge Medel; and her grandson, Leonardo (Acu) Raygoza.

Thank you to Pennys Adult Family Home for all the care and love they provided to our mom these last few years.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2025, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. The Holy Rosary will begin at 10 a.m., followed by Holy Mass at 10:30 a.m.

Gracias Madre/Abuela, por siempre darnos su bendición.
