Fatality collision closes Road 4 NE in Moses Lake
MOSES LAKE – Road 4 NE was closed Monday evening near Road F NE in Moses Lake due to a two-vehicle collision, which resulted in the fatality of a 37-year-old man. The road was closed until around midnight as the Motor Traffic Unit began its investigation and Grant PUD crews replaced a utility pole sheared off during the collision.
“We are now looking for the family of the victim before releasing his identity,” said Kyle Foreman, Public Information Officer for the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
A release from GCSO said that 26-year-old Benito Amayo Romero was driving a 2022 Ram pickup west on Road 4-Northeast when he struck a southbound Hyundai Accent driven by the 37-year-old man. The Hyundai entered the intersection after failing to stop at the stop sign at Road 4-Northeast.
The driver of the Hyundai died on the scene and his remains are in the care of Coroner Craig Morrison, whose staff will conduct an autopsy, according to the report by GCSO. Romero and two other individuals inside the Ram sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Samaritan Healthcare in Moses Lake.
Foreman said GSCO will release the identity of the deceased in the future after the next of kin has been notified.
