EPHRATA – A small fire flared up in Ephrata on Friday afternoon but was quickly dealt with, according to Ephrata Fire Chief Jeremy Burns.

The fire, which covered less than an acre, started about 5:30 p.m. along a gravel canyon wall just south of First Avenue Northwest and Sutter Street next to the city of Ephrata well house, Burns said.  A single brush tender and one command officer responded and doused the blaze.

There were no injuries or damage to property, according to Burns. The cause of the fire was unknown.

The fire may not have been big, but with recent weather, even a small fire can spread, Burns said.

“We’re very thankful that’s all that it was,” he said.
